Six steps to registration

Choose a head coach

Identify a head-coach candidate age 21 or older and at least one athlete. Community and school teams are eligible. Official SCTP FAQ

Secure range access

Build a relationship with a local gun club or range. Confirm safe access, available disciplines, scheduling, insurance questions, and facility requirements.

Talk to SCTP

Reach a current state advisor, regional representative, or national staff member to confirm the season's launch path. Official contact directory

Create the team in SHOT

The head coach or team administrator creates the new team and registers the first coach. Open SHOT

Complete coach requirements

Invite additional coaches and volunteers in SHOT. Complete current registration, background-check, and approved coach-training requirements. Coach training

Register athletes

Complete official athlete profiles, consent/waiver, sportsmanship, and medical-consent steps in SHOT; then plan a safe first-season calendar. Registration requirements

Current official fee snapshot: the SCTP registration page lists $45 per volunteer, a $20 team fee, and $35 per athlete. It also says background checks require renewal every two years. Fees and requirements can change; verify the official registration page before payment.

Olympic discipline teams

Prepare for Olympic disciplines

SCTP includes Olympic Bunker Trap and International Skeet. The SSSF Basic Shotgun Coach Course combines online coursework with a mandatory in-person range day; its current description says international disciplines receive only brief coverage. Confirm discipline-specific coaching and suitable range access separately.

Must the team be affiliated with a school?
